The Blood Transfusion Department of Zhejiang University School of Medicine Affiliated Fourth Hospital was established at the inception of the hospital. Over nearly a decade of development, it has cultivated a highly skilled and youthful workforce engaged in medical care, education, and research. The department consists of 7 professional staff members, including 3 with graduate degrees and 2 holding advanced professional titles.The Blood Transfusion Department is organized into four functional areas: Blood Typing, Blood Storage, Blood Issue, and Transfusion Therapy. It conducts a range of transfusion-related tests, including ABO and Rh blood typing, screening for irregular red blood cell antibodies, platelet and white blood cell antibody testing, thromboelastography, neonatal hemolysis testing, and cross-matching. Additionally, it has established a healthcare-friendly transfusion information management system integrated with the hospital's modern information platform. Currently, the hospital has established a Transfusion Therapy Center with the Blood Transfusion Department at its core, offering services such as autologous blood transfusion and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, providing patients with personalized, precise, and safe transfusion treatment options.

In 2017, the department achieved ISO15189 laboratory accreditation, making it the only accredited blood transfusion laboratory in the middle of Zhejiang region. It currently holds the position of Deputy Director Unit of the Clinical Blood Transfusion Working Committee of the Zhejiang Provincial Blood Transfusion Association. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Blood Transfusion Department (Laboratory Medicine Centre) demonstrated outstanding performance and was honored as an "Advanced Collective in Zhejiang Province in the Fight Against COVID-19." The department's Communist Party branch also received accolades, including recognition as an "Advanced Grassroots Party Organization at Zhejiang University" and an "Advanced Party Branch in the Zhejiang Provincial Health and Health System." This is a dynamic and vibrant team, and we will work together with determination to create a high-quality Blood Transfusion Department characterized with humanistic characteristics.
