The Clinical Laboratory was founded at the beginning of the establishment of the hospital. With ten years of development it has evolved into a comprehensive clinical laboratory integrating medical treatment, teaching, scientific research and social services. The laboratory has a total floor area of 2100 square meters and currently employs nearly 60 staff members, with over 50% holding master's and doctoral degrees. The team includes one chief technician, one associate professor, seven deputy chief technicians, sixteen technologist-in-charge, nine laboratory physicians, and sixteen phlebotomist.
The laboratory is divided into seven specialized departments, including Hematology, Body Fluids, Biochemistry, Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, and Emergency Testing. It boasts a range of advanced laboratory equipment, including large-scale testing devices such as the ROBO Intelligent Blood Collection Management System, Sysmex Fully Automated Hematology Analyzer Line, Fully Automated Biochemical Immunoassay Line, Fully Automated Roche cobas e801 Electrochemiluminescence Analyzer, Sysmex Fully Automated Coagulation Analyzer, Beckman Flow Cytometry Analyzer, Fluorescent PCR Detection Instrument, MALDI-TOF-MS, and other 43 sets. Additionally, it has established a laboratory information management system integrated with the hospital's modern information platform. The laboratory offers over 600 clinical tests, including complete blood counts, urinalysis, stool analysis, liver and kidney function tests, blood glucose, lipid profile, glycated hemoglobin, coagulation function, preoperative screening, tumor markers, bacterial and fungal culture identification, pathogen nucleic acid testing, and more. It processes more than 3 million specimens annually.
In 2017, the laboratory obtained ISO15189 laboratory accreditation, showcasing a well-established quality management system, a rational talent structure, comprehensive equipment, and substantial technical expertise. It has consistently upheld the principle of "seeking truth and tracing origins," dedicating itself to implementing a quality policy of "objectivity, fairness, accuracy, timeliness, high-quality service, and continuous improvement." The center follows the service philosophy of "minimizing the need for repeat visits" to meet the clinical and patient service requirements. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the clinical laboratory demonstrated exceptional performance and was honored as an "Advanced Collective in Zhejiang Province in the Fight Against COVID-19." The laboratory's Communist Party branch received accolades such as recognition as an "Advanced Grassroots Party Organization at Zhejiang University" and an "Advanced Party Branch in the Zhejiang Provincial Health System." Over the past three years, the laboratory has undertaken 26 projects at the national, provincial, and ministerial levels, published 13 SCI papers, obtained 3 patents, and organized 16 national and provincial continuing education programs. This is a dynamic and energetic team, and we will unite our efforts, continue to strive forward, and build a high-quality Clinical Laboratory Medicine Center with humanistic characteristics.
