The Department of Nephrology of the Fourth Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine is one of the excellent key disciplines in Jinhua, Zhejiang Provicne. The department consists of independent wards, several subspecialty clinics, a blood purification center and a peritoneal dialysis center. The department is capable of completing the diagnosis and treatment of various primary and secondary nephritis, refractory nephrotic syndrome and complex urinary tract infections, genetic testing of hereditary nephropathy, establishment and the maintenance of vascular access for patients with end stage kidney disease, management of peritoneal dialysis catheter, and the treatment and follow-up on patients with renal transplantation and parathyroid transplantation. It has high clinical and scientific research capabilities especially in precision immunotherapy for refractory kidney disease, the establishment of difficult vascular access, and the multi-organ supportive therapy for critically ill patients. Currently, it is the largest, most comprehensively capable and technologically advanced clinical nephrology specialty in the central and western part of Zhejiang province.

The aim of this Department of Nephrology is to become a center for the diagnosis and treatment of the acute and critical kidney diseases and difficult and rare kidney diseases. The department is equipped with international advanced equipment and experienced clinicians and nurses for hemodialysis, continuous renal replacement therapy and plasma purification therapy. It has successfully cured a large number of patients with high clinical mortality kidney diseases, such as anti-GBM nephropathy, severe lupus nephritis, hemolytic uremic syndrome, systemic vasculitis, etc. Through genetic tests, kidney biopsies, and establishment of non-invasive diagnostic models, it improved the diagnostic rate of rare kidney disease including Gitleman syndrome, IgG4-related nephropathy, Hutchinsons’s macroglobulinemia, and anti-GBM nephropathy. At the same time, the tissue and organ transplantation will also be gradually carried out in this department, and in the near future, it will become the first transplantation center in the central and western part of Zhejiang Province.
