Reproductive Medicine Centre of the Fourth Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine is headed by Hefeng Huang, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and dean of the International School of Medicine, Zhejiang University, and Jian Xu, secretary of the Party Committee of the Fourth Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine and the International School of Medicine, Zhejiang University, and a renowned expert of reproductive medicine in China.
The centre focuses on fertility protection, preservation and promotion. With the characteristics of reproductive endocrinology, reproductive surgery, reproductive genetics and assisted reproductive technology, the centre is committed to building a first-class reproductive clinical treatment and research center in China. The centre adopts clinical -scientific research integration development model and currently has a total of 29 staff members which includes 18 clinical staff, 5 special researchers, and 7 postdoctoral fellows.
Since the establishment of the centre in March 2018, it has served nearly 50,000 infertile couples. In July 2022, it successfully passed the national accreditation for the official operation of artificial insemination by husband. And as of July 2023, a total of 132 cycles of artificial insemination by husband were completed, with a pregnancy rate of 21.97%, which is up to the domestic advanced level. In addition, the centre has established close cooperation with the Women’s Hospital, School of Medicine, Zhejiang University, seamlessly carrying out a variety of assisted reproductive technologies, including in vitro fertilization (IVF), intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), and embryo freezing.
In the past three years, the centre has taken the lead in researching or completing one national key research and development project and one National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) project and has been granted five national patents. Meanwhile, the centre has published 24 SCI articles. The centre has carried out a lot of pioneering and fundamental work in the field of fertility protection and promotion. For example, the first case of trans-myometrial puncture embryo transplantation in China, which provides the only therapy for women with reproductive tract malformation so far, and the technique has been published in international authoritative academic journals. The centre also took the leader in carrying out laparoscopic tubal anastomosis, ovarian tissue freezing and resuscitation, and ovarian tissue xenotransplantation research in the province. The patent "uterine cavity anti-adhesion diaphragm" has completed the clinical transformation and has been widely used in the clinic. A new clinical technique of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) for the treatment of intrauterine adhesions and ovarian hypofunction has been developed early in China.
